Methodology

Shock Score formula: Upfront burden (35%) + maximum cash drawdown (30%) + recovery timeline (20%) + distance uncertainty (15%). Scores range from 0 (catastrophic) to 100 (seamless). Grade mapping: A = 85+, B = 70-84, C = 55-69, D = 40-54, F = below 40.

Data sources: Upfront costs modeled from HUD FMR (deposits), moving industry averages (movers), state DMV fee schedules (registration), and BLS data (monthly costs). Salary adjustments assume partial cost-of-living tracking (40% of differential). All figures are estimates for a single person on $75K salary.
