How City Finder Works
What factors does City Finder consider?
We score each city across 5 dimensions: Affordability (40%), Job Market Potential (20%), Climate Match (15%), Income-to-Cost Ratio (15%), and City Amenities (10%). The weights are calibrated to reflect what matters most when choosing where to live.
Where does the cost data come from?
All cost estimates are derived from Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), U.S. Census Bureau, and HUD federal datasets. Monthly expenses use our city-specific cost-of-living index applied to national category averages.
How accurate are the monthly surplus estimates?
Take-home pay uses standard federal tax brackets. Monthly costs use our cost index model. These are estimates — your actual numbers depend on lifestyle, specific neighborhood, commute, and personal spending. Think of them as directional guides, not exact budgets.
